WHAT DOES SIELE MEAN?

Literally: Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española (SIELE).

WHICH IS SIELE’ s AIM?

This certificate has been created to be able to determine the level of knowledge of the Spanish Language in any point of our planet.

SIELE will admit the different variations of the Spanish language around the world. In this way, tests and evaluations will adapt the content to the different linguistic geographical varieties of the language.

This certificate comes out from the collaboration of Instituto Cervantes and Universidad Autónoma de México. There is foreseen that there will be more that 600 Latin-American universities and department of education of the Spanish-speaking countries adding to the proyect.

The purpose is to continue promoting the Spanish language in the world, doing the major efforts in Brazil, USA and China.

There is foreseen a minimum of 300.000 annual candidacies that will rise up to 750.000 in five years.
WHICH IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DELE AND SIELE?

We can say that DELE would be equivalent to the degrees of Cambridge in English or the DELF or French DALF. And SIELE to IELTS or TOELF.

WHAT WILL SIELE BE LIKE?

The examination is very complete and will consist of 4 parts: reading comprehension, comprehension, written expression and oral expression.

The first two tests will have the results automatically, other parts in a term not superior to 3 weeks. The student can enroll for the whole exam (and have the SIELE certifícate) of for some of the tests (and have a results inform).

SIELE is not failed or passed. The students get a puntuation between 0 and 1000. This marks have equivalence with the levels described in Marco Común de Europeo de Referencia para las lenguas (MCER).

HOW MANY LEVELS ARE THERE?

There is an examination for adults for levels between A1 and C2. DELE exams are until C2.

HOW LONG WILL SIELE BE VALID FOR?

It will be valid for two years. The current DELE does not have expiry date.

WILL DELE DISAPPEAR? SIELE or DELE?

No. DELE continues with its recognition and utility. SIELE comes to complement it for another type of students who want to certify their knowledge of Spanish with different needs. Both will coexist and there is not foreseen that SIELE is going to substitute DELE.
